Barker Takes His Fourth PDF Print E-mail
ImageIn the form of hi career, Briton Ben Barker has won the first race held on the extended Morgan Park raceway layout in Warwick, Queensland, today.

The Team BRM driver took advantage of a black-flag for teammate – and then race leader – Mitch Evans on lap four - for rolling at / prior to the start - to take a lead he would never lose and win his fourth race in succession.

Tom Tweedie finished second after barely missing out on a front-row qualifying position, whilst Chris Gilmour represented well for the Queensland contingent by finishing third.

With Evans recovering to fifth place, the title race is even closer than ever with Tweedie now just five points up on Barker and Evans, who are tied on 132 points each.

Barker received a bonus point for the fastest lap, his new outright track record standing at 1m09.4980s.

Winslow Charges Into Top Five Results At Watkins Glen, New York! PDF Print E-mail
ImageJames Winslow finally achieved the result his Firestone Indy Lights Series form has deserved when he claimed fifth place in the Corning 100 at the historic Watkins Glen circuit in New York State.

The Briton’s previous three outings in the IndyCar feeder series had seen him suffer more than his share of misfortune but, despite qualifying at the former Formula One venue suggesting that Lady Luck was again absent from his side of the Sam Schmidt Motorsport garage, Winslow turned things around on race day to produce his best result of the season.

Facing another new venue, but not having so much as set foot in a race car since his last Indy Lights outing on the streets of Long Beach – where the steering wheel of the #77 car came off in his hands as he was chasing a potential podium finish – Winslow’s initial progress was slowed by handling problems that plagued his practice sessions.

Mallala Hat-Trick Puts Barker Back In Title Hunt PDF Print E-mail
ImageBritain’s Ben Barker enjoyed a break-out weekend as the Kumho Tyres Australian F3 Championship visited Mallala in South Australia, not only claiming his first victory in the category, but sweeping all three races across the weekend to put himself firmly back into title contention.

After a disappointing round at Phillip Island, where a harsh jump start penalty denied him a maiden win, Barker bounced back to dominate the entire Mallala weekend, beginning by topping testing and only missing out on pole position for the opening race by three-hundredths of a second to BRM team-mate Mitch Evans, as the pair traded times throughout qualifying.

With the grid lining up side-by-side, rather than in staggered formation, starting second wouldn’t have been too much of a handicap for Barker, but the Briton’s plans for a quick getaway were ruined by some typically British conditions, as the heavens opened with the cars on their formation lap. With the field subsequently starting behind the safety car, Evans was able to get the jump, with Barker having to give chase in heavy spray.

Penalty Denies Barker Maiden F3 Win PDF Print E-mail
ImageBritain’s Ben Barker appeared poised to break his Formula Three victory duck at Phillip Island, only for a harsh jump-start penalty to ensure that he is still waiting for the breakthrough.

Pre-race testing for round three of the Kumho Tyres Australian F3 Championship went well for the Formula Ford graduate, who defied his lack of track knowledge to trim his best time to within a few hundredths of more experienced team-mate Mitch Evans. That performance continued into qualifying, where Barker comfortably made it through into the ‘Quick Six’ shoot-out, but his promise was to be cut short when a sheared exhaust manifold bolt denied him a shot at pole in the final session.

“There was only half a tenth between myself and my team-mate but, towards the end of the first session, my car began struggling with bottom end power, which the team traced to the sheared bolt,” Barker noted, “The team tried everything they could to fix it, but it was too late.”
